| PRESS RELEASE | For Immediate Release |
(San Diego, CA -- May 11, 2005) : KIC, the leader of thermal process development and control products, and winner of multiple VISION awards, announces that it has expanded its library of solder paste process windows within the KIC 2000 software to a record 788. This number includes reflow and cure specs, as well as a host of new lead-free solder paste process windows.
The library is scheduled to be updated with new pastes every quarter, and is available for download to KIC 2000 platform users at www.kicthermal.com free of charge. With the addition of solder pastes to the library, the following dialog will be displayed on the Web site when a user clicks to download the file:
This release of the KIC 2000 Solder Paste Specs Library contains updated information for the following manufacturers: Almit, Avantec, Cobar, Indium, Kester, Koki, Loctite and Multicore.
For paste manufacturers that are not listed above, KIC will attempt to provide updated information in the next release. If a solder paste is being used that is not listed in the Library, users can select the "Define Your Own Spec" option and manually enter the data that is given on the technical data sheet provided by that paste‘s manufacturer.
Each future update will contain the list of any manufacturer whose data has been changed/updated. This allows the user to know ahead of time whether they need download the file or not.
The addition of the significant number of solder pastes to the Library further illustrates that the SlimKIC 2000 is more than a profiler it is a process development tool that defines the process window (therefore the solder list), measures and improves the process.
SlimKIC 2000 is a profiler to aid in the transition to lead-free. With the initiatives in place, it is necessary for electronics manufacturers to prepare for lead-free production. It is crucial to have the proper tools and systems to handle this transition. Now there is a solution -- KIC‘s SlimKIC 2000, a profiler and process development tool whose capabilities are designed specifically for optimizing the lead-free thermal process.
SlimKIC 2000 incorporates up to 12 thermocouples and has both real-time and datalogging options. The system is available with a stainless steel thermal shield and thermocouples rated to handle the higher temperatures required for the lead-free reflow process. For lead-free applications that require higher processing temperatures and smaller process windows, the SlimKIC 2000 offers Navigator and Auto-Focus, two options that can simplify the lead-free reflow process setup.
